[ABSTRACT WITH ABBREVIATED SAMPLE CHAPTER]

By Brent A. Metfessel; MD, MS, CMP(Hon)

"For the last 30 years, hospital information systems [HIS] have grown in popularity. At present, nearly every acute care hospital in the US has some form of HIS; performing administrative tasks like patient billing, payer accounting and employee payroll tracking. Depending on hospital size, an information system may cost from several hundred thousand dollars - to tens of millions of dollars.

About Internet Citations

Healthcare Organizations [Journal of Financial Management Strategies], makes use of “Uniform Resource Locators” - URLs - to direct subscribers to useful web [internet] sites with additional references. However, host entities frequently reorganize and update sites, so URLs can change rapidly. And, while home page sites rarely change, more specific pages within the site often do. All internet citations for this journal are therefore “live” when published, but we cannot guarantee how long they will remain so, despite our best efforts to keep them current.
